Synopsis:
So again as always people who are familiar with my edits know what's coming: A streamlines version of Spider-Man 3 that tries it's best to fit in with the previous two films. No Uncle Ben plot, Harry fakes his insomnia, Mary Jane isn't forced to break up are the biggest changes. It has only streamlined cuts that are seamless.

Warning: If you absolutely hate everything about the original, odds are you won't like this. That said, this is easily my most intrusive edit yet, with huge parts of the story flipped around.
Intention:
I made this edit to see if SpiderMan 3 could be saved (no offense if you like the original, that's cool). It is bloated, messy but it does have a lot of heart. So I went to the cutting room and I believe I have managed to make the movie far more managable and streamlined!
Other Sources:
Spider-Man 3 and the Editor's cut were both used.
Special Thanks:
Huge thanks to user Topher1999 for providing me with custom made voice work to add some more dialogue to Venom. This helps him have a bit more personality.
Release Information:
Blu-ray
Editing Details:
I felt the movie had some continuity errors when watching them back to back with part one and two (uncle ben's new killer?) so I set out to make a version that feels more in line with those movies. I tried to balance the movies camp, because even though some people hate him dancing I think the editor's cut putting it right after he almost kills Harry makes it work so well.
Cuts and Additions:
- Only seamless cuts. Show this to someone who hasn't seen the original and they won't be able to tell it isn't the original movie.

- Edited the early Harry/Peter fight. I feel the original fight scene drags on and has some questionable moments.

- It's heavily implied that Harry fakes insomnia from the start after losing the fight.

- M.J Breaks up with Peter voluntarily after the kiss, the breakup, losing her job and the general shitty behaviour or Peter.

- Reduced the parts I found too campy, like when Betty tells Peter his shots are so good and he would love to shoot her sometime.

- Every mention of Uncle Ben is removed

- The first half about the movie is about Peter's relationship with MJ as Spiderman. The second half is about his breakup and his coping with the black suit. This helps the pacing a LOT.

- Removed other lines I found a bit too lame, like the 'tell me you love me' and the 'I thought it was the sun' lines.

- Altered the dialogue with Peter and M.J. on the phone. The first one now refers to his messed up proposal night, the second one refers to the bar dance.

- Speaking of the bar dance, Peter now doesnt harass the first employee he sees and doesnt do crazy acrobatics. (although a Jazz Dance version is also available for the meme gods and my preferred version)

- Sandman returns as a sandcastle for his daughter. Removed the scene where he reforms after going out of the drainpipe. It's an ugly scene imo and the sandcastle scene already tells you he survived.

- Harry decides to help Peter

- Peter doesn't know Sandman is working with Peter, because I removed this from the news report. I like the idea of Peter not knowing what he's getting into.

- Included the May scene telling Peter to forgive himself

- Removed Venom mentioning Sandman's daughter, because he cannot know this about Sandman. Also modified his voice, and he says 'we' one time instead of 'I'.

- Added voice work to several shots with Venom, such as him taunting Peter as they fall down. Him shouting 'Come here!' as he grabs Peter and a whole new monologue when he's stalking Peter and suddenly grabs him.

- Some minor other tweaks you won't even know are changed unless you religiously watch the movie

This Review is for the version (v5) with both the Goblin fight and the full dance scene (I really like the dance, it gives “The Mask” vibes and that fits with the Venom suit).

I love the big editing changes with Pete and MJ’s relationship. Overall, it makes so much more narrative sense for things to happen the way they do in this edit. The original film was just all over the place and had serious editing and pacing issues. Well done!

(The original film implies that black shirt and suit = douchebag, which I find pretty funny)

The character of Sandman is also improved. Removing the weird retcon about him and Uncle Ben was a big help. The big reordering of the narrative works surprisingly well. And pretty much all of the cuts are seamless.

At 0h19m06, the new placement of the “you knew this was coming” works well narratively, but it feels a bit off because the buildings in the background create a tiny continuity error (not major, but it’s noticeable). This was improved by the editor in the newest version, though.

(James Franco has terrible line deliveries this entire film…)

I’m not a fan of the shot with the flag in the background at 1h41m54 (it makes me think of Captain America, which breaks my suspension of disbelief); but this is a superhero film, it’s not that much of an issue.

Although I like the end scene (it’s cute), in terms of the narrative it messes some things up. It’s already heavily implied that Peter and MJ will end up together again, there’s no need to show it directly (and it should take a bit longer to happen). Also, the funeral works as a great epilogue scene, and the shot with Peter alone looking at Harry’s grave would maybe make for a better ending for the film. It would give gravitas to Harry’s sacrifice, instead of ending a bit like a romcom. This is a personal take, and it’s an issue with the original of course.

hi,i think this edit is amazing it fixes problems within spiderman 3 and makes it a far superior movie by removing sandman as the killer it makes his motive stronger and greatly improved his character, plus making sandman the killer undermines a message from the first film.I liked that he was just a struggling man trying to help his daughter and somone you can symphasize with ,also removing harry blackmailing mary jane,it made her character stonger and made peter feel responsibilty for his actions and the tone was also similar to the first two films,i also liked how you edited the final battle to be more intense and right to the point,it turned an okay film into an amazing one 10 out of 10,i immensely enjoyed the edit and highly reccomend it

This edit is an amazing way to save a mediocre movie.
I am truly amazed of what can be done with re-editing the film.
It's been a while since I watched Spider-Man 3, in my opinion by far the weakest movie of the trilogy.

To focus the first half of the film to the MJ-Peter-relationship which motivates Peter to use the black suit in the second half is a great, logical way to tell the story.
Having Harry as a threat in the background is a great twist and works pretty good.
Removing the Uncle Ben connection with Sandman just makes him a really sad character, a caring father with a good heart, who just happend to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

There are just some minor issues I recognized while watching this edit.
The part where MJ meets Harry and later ends the relationship with Peter feels a bit weird.
It still works pretty well in this edit but maybe these scenes need a little overhaul to have a nicer flow (depending on the material that can be used in these scenes).
Another minor issue for me was the scene where Peter shows the symbiot to Dr. Connors. Maybe have this scene after the Subway fight with Sandman, after the arguement with Mr. Ditkovich. Peter realizes something is wrong with him, maybe he is even scared of his new powers and behaviors, asks Dr. Connors for advice, but still goes back to the black suit after the scene with Harry at the Café.

Like I said, just some minor issues that shouldn't affect your viewing pleasure.
Other flaws are caused by the original film itself and can't be fixed without reshooting the film...
Like the relationship between MJ and Peter feeling more like a friendship instead them being lovers.
Or Venom still being an afterthought in the movie.

All in all I really enjoyed this edit.
It was fun to watch and made the movie so much better.
Thank you very much for your hard work!

The beginning of the film felt hollow with the missing fight between Harry and Peter (which is fine). This makes more sense and leaves the tone of the movie as coherent as possible. I really liked the pacing and hardly noticed some events were moved around. The faking amnesia felt like a bad idea when I started but as I got further it made more sense and it made Harry more of a threat. One thing I felt could have been better explained is moving the meteor a bit later in the movie because I never liked that the symbiote takes its time to latch to a host but this is my only nitpick. This edit really saves the trilogy and shows how good editing can completely change a film. Watching this makes me wish the venom symbiote was not so dated.

This edit is nearly flawless and should have been what Sony released.

Outside of a bit of weird pacing during Peter's acclimation to the black suit, and some unavoidable holdovers from the original film, this edit does a frankly immaculate job at bringing out the best in the movie's narrative. There's little I can say that hasn't already been said about this cut in other, more comprehensive reviews. Not only is this edit impressive on a technical level, but so many intelligent changes have been made to the framing of key plot points that noticeably enhance the underlying emotional weight they were always intended to convey. If you're itching to rewatch this film or the Raimi trilogy as a whole, I truly couldn't recommend this edit more.

EDIT: The recent changes made to this edit have squashed many issues I've seen people note with it, my own included. The reintroduction of the fight with Harry in the first act of the edit breathes a little more life back into an otherwise long buildup to the more dynamic second and third acts of this film. Peter's acclimation to the symbiote is better structured and makes for a more satisfying narrative payoff later on. And the moment between Peter and Flint at the end of the film has been cleverly edited to help make Peter appear less emotional in his interaction with Flint where it wouldn't be so appropriate given the changes this edit makes to Flint's involvement in Ben's death. I do have to admit, though, that I'm not the biggest fan of Venom's new voice in the scene where he approaches Flint. The effect feels just a little too strong. I could see it working if it were toned down, though. Regardless, this edit highlights the best aspects of the original film while managing to resolve a majority of the things that held it back. It would seem I made a grievous mistake in my initial review: It turns out I *can* recommend this edit even more, and I absolutely do.

A lot of smart choices and one very weird decision.
I'd like to preface the review by saying that before watching this cut I firmly considered myself a hater of the film and it managed to completely turn me around, which I think counts for something. Moving the Peter and MJ breakup into the second act and reframing the whole Black Suit storyline as Peter coping with it was a great choice and the character development in general feels a lot more organic (the scene of Harry drinking and hallucinating in his mansion makes his transformation into Goblin much more impactful than just him getting high on goblin juice). However, I don't like the removal of the fight scene with Harry in the beginning, it provides some nice action in the largely actionless first half of the film and gives context to the entire storyline with Harry. This cut made me appreciate what Raimi did with this film much more, which is the best thing an edit can do.
