Synopsis:
The same Spider-Man: Homecoming you love with a pinch of added responsibility.
Intention:
I like Spider-Man: Homecoming fine, however compared to all the other Spider-Man movies I feel like it was too generic and didn't resonate with me as much as it should. Peter, to me, lost his sense of responsibility and relatability. He turned from an average, nerdy, shy and awkward outcast to a privileged kid hell bent on proving himself to become an Avenger, looking down on his peers. That's all fine and dandy if he rediscovers his sense of responsibility and humility, and the film tries to do that, but an important part of rediscovering his responsibility and feeling of guilt after losing Uncle Ben was still missing. I wanted to remedy that, so I tweaked, trimmed, cut, added, modified until I was satisfied. I believe what I came up with is a movie that's a little faithful and overall better than what we got.
Additional Notes:
I took a lot of inspiration from Bobson Dugnutt's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man while adding my own spin (ha) to the movie.
Other Sources:
Captain America: Civil War
The Amazing Spider-Man
Spider-Man (2002)
Deleted Scenes from Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming Soundtrack by Michael Giacchino
Spider-Man Soundtrack by Danny Elfman
Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack by Danny Elfman
Special Thanks:
Bobson Dugnutt, theryaney, Halil Mert Ceylan, Gurkan Kursun, Ceyhundvd, Qeslanfrog, and KetchupTheGeek.
Release Information:
Digital
Special Features:
Available in 720p 4GB, 1080p 8 GB, and 1080p 18 GB
Editing Details:
I used Adobe Premiere Pro and Audition. Subtle regrade by Bobson Dugnutt.
Cuts and Additions:
+Add “2012” date over Stark Tower
*Replaced “8 Years Later” with “Present Day”
*Replace “Hey everyone” with Tony saying “Nice job kid” from Civil War
-Cut Tony’s “Skimpy Aunt May” joke
+Added deleted scene where Liz tries to convince Peter not to leave the group. I think it hits home harder how Peter’s letting his friends down and lends well to the responsibility theme
-Cut “How’s your Aunt” dialogue at Delmar’s
-Cut Ned’s infatuated “A thing to do after...”
-Cut “I larb you”
-Cut waiter hitting on Aunt May
-Cut Ned asking Peter several questions about his powers
*Changed Peter's ringtone to a familiar funky tune :D
*Change Ferris Bueller audio to actual audio from the movie
*Change music of Iron Man saving Peter to Hulkbuster musical cue from Age of Ultron
-Cut “Does this work?” And “I thought this was the Anti-Gravity gun” to make Toomes even more intimidating and someone who'll do anything to protect his family
-Cut Ned’s “Awesome” after Peter says he was almost vaporized
-Cut Ned’s “I just want to thank you for...” etc.
-Cut both instances of “instant kill” This does kinda ruin its payoff in Endgame, but I never liked how Tony kinda gave a killing machine to a kid. Also that can easily be cut from a potential Endgame edit.
-Cut Karen saying “You’ll have to create momentum.” Peter can (and should) figure this out on his own.
-Cut Toomes saying “8” from “8 years and not a word from the feds” and added a Danny Elfman cue like Bobson Dugnutt did in his edit.
-Cut Karen describing Aaron Davis’ age as 33. Since the movie has to take place in September 2016, Aaron Davis has to be 32.
-Cut Karen saying Peter was “98% successful”
*Rescored Iron Man saving the ferry with the Iron Man 3 Theme
+Created new Uncle Ben flashback using the Civil War bedroom scene footage and Amazing Spider-Man 1 footage I replaced in my Extended Edition (Martin Sheen Uncle Ben. Not so unbelievable after the multiverse) with echoed dialogue from previous scenes, Spider-Man 1, and Civil War to hit home how the last time he didn't interfere with someone's business, he lost the person he loves most. The music I used is "Uncle Ben" from the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. I always thought the "why" to Peter's responsibility (so basically his "need" to rediscover in contrast to his "want") was missing, or at least left very vague to the audience (except if you've seen past Spidey movies or at least Civil War, which you shouldn't be required to do--a film, especially the first in a new series, must stand on its own two feet).
-Cut gum under the bus joke
-Cut “I‘m looking at porn” gag. People seem to love this joke. I don’t.
+Added Danny Elfman's "Responsibility Theme" (using "Final Confrontation" from SM1) over Peter being stuck under the rubble and seeing his mask and his reflection in the water.
-Cut repeat of “If you’re nothing without this suit, then you shouldn’t have it.” We get it.
+Elfman's "Responsibility Theme" (using "Train/Appreciation" from SM2) plays one final time when Happy finds Toomes tied in a web before the music transitions to Giacchino's Spider-Man theme.
*Moved Toomes in prison to after Liz says goodbye to Peter
-Cut Audi dashboard
-Cut the whole “that was a test right?” exchange
*Moved Tony/Pepper proposal scene to mid-credits
*Replace credits song with the Ramones Spider-Man theme
-Cut Gwyneth Paltrow from the animated credits
*Replaced Captain America post credits scene with deleted Aaron Davis deleted scene. As much as I love the Cap scene it only works in the context of waiting in the theater for something meaningful, and that is lost when you can just skip to it with modern video players. I also prefer the Miles Morales reference much more.

This was a very nice edit by Masirimso17. A real enhancement of a movie I liked made even better.

It was an excellent decision to remove instances of Aunt May being an object of desire. I always liked her character in the mold of protecter and leader in the mold of her previous iterations in the Spiderman universe as opposed to having various men ogling over her. I thought some of the cuts to other very awkward humor were proper and warranted.

I really liked the addition/creation of the new Uncle Ben scene. It helped enhance the narrative in a positive way. However, it did not feel as it flowed naturally within the movie. It seemed noticeable like it was an added extra. The movie is still better with it than without.

The cuts and rearrangements in this edit really hit home Peter's growing up and becoming responsible. In that regard, the editor succeeded in the stated intent to hammer in this point. On that account, my enjoyment was hindered by watching the portrayal of immature high school students. This is not the editor's fault as it is an integral part of the narrative to demonstrate the growth of a teenager. This type of content can aggravate me personally.

I also personally liked the additions of the musical score from previous Spiderman franchises that added a flair of nostalgia. Normally, I am against nostalgia-baiting, but it worked here as it fit the flow of the movie.

I want to thank the editor for sharing this edit with me. It was personally enjoyable. I recommend this edit for others who want an enhanced, but not radically restructured version of this movie.

My preferred edit of Homecoming. Cuts are unnoticeable, it and sounds looks crisp, and the additions made improved upon the original, The Iron Man 3 themes were welcome, but I loved the way the responsibility theme was incorporated into scenes, used appropriately to give more weight to Peter's decisions. Even the small flashback to Uncle Ben helped crystallize what the editor said the film kept vague, the need to Peter's want (as an aside I love how the editor chose to use Peter's own words describe the situation rather than have the direct Great Reponsibility quote). The only reason the visual editing isn't a ten is because I noticed a very brief frame right after Peter's flashback and the school deleted scene could have been color corrected more, but this is still a worthwhile, fantastic edit,

Great power, great responsibility. That is the theme that defines spider-man. Spider-Man Homecoming completely throws that out the window in favor of filler fluff, forced humor, obnoxious name dropping, reliance too much on Iron Man, cameos, references and Aunt May being hot to distract from a weak story.

Masi's fan edit trims out some of the many flaws, and does make it a more tolerable experience. The best cuts being editing out Aunt May's only character trait being that she's hot, the Vulture teleporter gun joke and Peter's line at the end "That was a test right?" that completely ruins whatever shred of character development he had.

Visual editing and cuts were perfect with only 2 small mistakes I noticed. The waiter hitting on Aunt May was editing out, but there's a lingering shot of the waiter that is abruptly cut. I would recommend, just ending the scene with Peter saying "I need a new backpack" in order to cut the waiter shot out completely.
In this version Vulture intentionally kills Shocker which is awesome, but there's still a lingering shot of Vulture's confused look on his face when Shocker died. Other than that, Top notch.

Video quality was darkened, I would imagine to give a darker atmosphere. It works in most shots, but when Peter's under the rubble I could barely see him.
Audio quality was perfect.

Audio editing, changing the track for the ferry added some punch to what was going on, which is definitely needed for such a big moment of the movie. I was a little confused after the last Vulture fight when Tobey's Spider-Man theme plays instead of this movie's Spider-Man theme. However, it didn't bother me at all.

Narrative: It's the same story, I never felt like something was missing. As for the addition of Uncle Ben's flashback. I think it's a cool idea in theory, but all I could think about was the Sony movies. It never felt like this universe's version of Uncle Ben.

Enjoyment : Any lack of enjoyment is the original films fault and not that of Masi.

Masi's version is just better than the original, plain and simple. If I have to watch this movie all the way through again, I'll for sure be watching Masi's version. I recommend this for anyone who already likes Homecoming, but if you're someone like me who doesn't like the original, this isn't a complete overhaul to change that. It's just a tweaked version.

This edit is great!

My biggest gripe with the original film is the lack of consequences, but this edit remedies that!

A couple scenes that were edited in weren't color balanced to the rest of the film that well, and I thought the removal of the aunt may jokes and the porn joke was unnecessary, they were quick bumps that gave the movie heart. But the editing of the flashback and the elfman theme, sublime choice, maybe a little thick with the TASM scenes but the flashback with the quote
"If you can do good things, but you don't, and then bad things happen, they happen because of you." brilliant. We need more elfman theme in homecoming
