Review Detail

This is an amazing edit of such a disappointing original film, I am in awe! There were always parts of Into Darkness that I liked but they all got overshadowed by the insane convoluted plot and very out of character moments for almost everyone. This version is a classic Star Trek story with everyone you want: cool action set pieces, the crew being very competent against impossible odds, and most importantly, a really great dynamic between Kirk and Spock. The focus on their relationship in this was so good I could not believe you were using footage from the original movie. I did not remember the "you don't know why I came back and saved you" moment because everything else going on was so nonsensical, but that affected me deeply this time around. If the Kirk/Spock story doesn't work the Star Trek doesn't work, and this nails it. It's much easier to forgive all the silly plot points that have to stay (Star Trek is full of silly plot points and always has been anyway) when the story and themes are so tight and well presented. As other people have said, it's disappointing that Uhura isn't in this a lot but that's the original's fault for making her whole character a nagging girlfriend, and you definitely did the best with what you had. I'm now excited to watch this trilogy again, really really well done!
