Synopsis:
After 15+ years of noodling, I've finally landed on a version of the prequels that I prefer. The main concept is to fix AOTC, the weakest link that brings down the other two, and make TPM lead into it, and ROTS build from it.

The biggest problem I have with these movies isn’t necessarily the content. There’s some stuff I’m not crazy about, such as midichlorians and some of Anakin’s whiney, creepy behavior, sure. However, the biggest problem to me is in the minute to minute pacing. They just feel… weird? Off? Something’s not quite right in every single scene. The most egregious example is AOTC, where seemingly nobody talks like a human being, characters stand around clearly waiting for their cue, and much of the action mostly falls flat.

Even worse, the love story doesn’t work, partly because I think they focused on it way too much. The dialogue between Anakin and Padme is shockingly strange, but the chemistry between the two actors is definitely there. Just letting them spend time together would have sold it enough.

So I’m taking another crack at the Prequels, but I’m starting with AOTC, the biggest problem with the trilogy. Once I get that working, I can build up to it with TPM, and off of it with ROTS. The idea here is to go into every scene and remove that disjointed, stagey, unnatural feeling that permeates the film. Action will be pumped up and pacey, conversations will have that zing that they’re lacking, and the movie will move along at a steady pace.
Intention:
Improve the pacing of all three films to feel more in-line with the originals. Flesh out the story and characters with deleted scenes and content from other Star Wars projects.
Other Sources:

Editing Details:
The intention here is to build off of a significantly improved AOTC, paying off character arcs in an exciting, intense way. Footage from various Star Wars TV series was used to bolster the Order 66 sequence.
Cuts and Additions:
- Tons of micro-cuts throughout for pacing. They will not all be noted here.
- Added classic Fox fanfare and Lucasiflm logo.
- Cut a lot of dialogue in the space battle and removed the buzz droids sequence.
- Kept the shot of Obi-Wan leaping out of his cruiser. Never got why people cut that. It's very cool.
- Cut shot of Anakin in the cockpit removing his seatbelt.
- Added some score over the hanger scene.
- Cut most of the business with them reaching Palpatine, keeping just the destroyer droids/droids on the elevator.
- Cut Dooku leaping over the railing.
- Cut some dialogue throughout this sequence.
- Cut a few of Palpatine's silly reaction shots.
- Obi-Wan no longer has a giant scaffold dropped on top of him.
- Cut Anakin's hesitation in killing Dooku.
- Cut Palpatine's line about the sand people.
- Cut Obi-Wan being retrieved.
- Cut some dialogue when the ships are firing their batteries at each other.
- I used HAL's editing as a blueprint for them getting captured in the elevator shaft, removing the ray shields sequence.
- Cut Anakin's "I thought you'd be taller"
- Added music over the battle on the bridge.
- Cut some little bits of dialogue as they pilot the ship down to Coruscant.
- Trimmed up Anakin and Obi-Wan's banter when they arrive to meet Mace.
- Added the "plot to destroy the Jedi" deleted scene after Grievous contacts Palpatine.
- Cut the balcony scene with Anakin and Padme.
- Cut Anakin saying "I'm honored"
- Trimmed Anakin's reaction to not becoming a master so it's less whiny, but still angry.
- Added the first Senate deleted scene after Obi-Wan and Anakin speak at the temple.
- Anakin does not tell Padme she's "starting to sound like a Separatist"
- Cut mention of Midichlorians.
- Added second Senate scene after the Opera
- Added third Senate scene after Obi-Wan arrives on Utapau
- Cut Obi-Wan getting the lizard-horse, go straight to Grievous addressing the Separatists.
- Cut Grievous' "You fool! I'm trained in the blah blah blah"
- Trimmed up the fight sequence for pacing.
- Trimmed Anakin realizing Palpatine is the Sith lord so he catches on a bit quicker.
- Trimmed the second Grievous fight for pacing.
- Trimmed Anakin and Mace discussing Palpatine so Anakin doesn't sound so much like he is trying to save Palpatine.
- Removed 3PO from a shot where Padme is staring out the window.
- Darkened Palpatine's office slightly when he's confronted.
- Trimmed the scene where Palpatine attacks so it's a little more violent and sudden.
- Cut some of the sillier shots of their fight.
- Used Hal's version of the Palpatine reveal and Mace's death.
- Removed a large chunk of the dialogue in the naming scene. Added a slight camera shake to Anakin's shots to make him feel more unbalanced.
- Order 66 has been completely reworked. Yoda's scene is now the cap on the sequence, and footage from Book of Boba Fett and Mandalorian are included to open the scene up. Anakin no longer personally kills the Younglings.
- Cut some of the Padawan's acrobatics when Bail goes to the temple.
- Combined two of Obi-Wan's scenes when he swims up and escapes.
- Changed the music when Obi-Wan arrives at Bail's ship to feel less triumphant.
- Cut Anakin's yellow eyes and some of his acrobatics when he kills the Separatist leaders.
- Cut Yoda deciding to fight Palpatine.
- Obi-Wan doesn't say he saw Anakin "Killing Younglings"
- Obi-Wan does not verbally respond to "You're going to kill him?"
- Cut the shot of Obi-Wan hiding in the toilet, we just see him get onboard the ship in the wide shot.
- Trimmed Anakin and Padme's dialogue on Mustafar for pacing.
- A few Obi-Wan lines are cut when he speaks to Anakin, so it's more of Anakin going on an unhinged rant.
- Yoda vs. Palpatine is cut, we stay with the Battle of the Heroes the whole time.
- All dialogue is cut after they start fighting until Anakin is beaten.
- Medical droid dialogue replaced (by me, it's my voice)
- Cut everything with Vader after the helmet closes.
- Cut discussion of Qui-Gon and training for Obi-Wan.
- Changed the transition from 3PO to Padme's funeral so it's not that silly looking circle-in on his face.

Much like Spences other Prequel edits audio and video are superb with jarring edits and great pacing,

This time around we once again have no Yoda fighting which I personally never had a problem with but if you liked him just as a wise old master this is your edit. I really enjoyed that Anikan was told not shown killing children it still gets the point across but remembers Star Wars is also for kids. The best changes for me was the removal of that wooden corny Lucas dialogue, this is my favorite of the prequels but man this one always had the worst lines for me more so than AOTC which is saying something. So gone are "You underestimate my power" and the like. The fight between Obi and Ani have also been slightly edited for improved pacing no spinning light sabers around for a few seconds.
The ending is also fixed cutting the birth of Vader at his first breath was all we needed Since a former queen dying would have been big news and the less I am reminded of that infamous Nooooooo the better. As a director said "what you don't show is just as important as what you do." This my favorite of Spences prequel edits it is an improvement over the original. I almost forgot to mention C-3PO Spence never had him in the other two prequel edits (he was still in AOTC for one scene but his voice was edited so it was a different droid) he is introduced here as a protocol droid for the senate. I like this change and he was introduced with little fan fare unlike the sequel trilogy his place in the story comes later anyway so his presence isn't needed.

I liked your edit. Your cuts are perfect. I did find the two Bail Organa apartment scenes slowed down the pace. I liked the fact you didn't show Anakin dicing the younglings, but later when Yoda tells Obi-Wan a light saber killed them, it was obviously Anakin. Personally I think Anakin should never have been the one to kill them. I still enjoyed it very much. An improvement on the original.

This is a review for all three of the Spence prequels, which I will copy and paste onto each of their pages, since what I have to say about the application of the editing process applies to all three.

First of all, the cuts, both visual and audio, are the most seamless of any of the fanedits I've seen thus far. For the most part, unless you know what was already there or not there, it plays out as though this is what was intended. I can't think of an overtly awkward cut. Greater care was taken here to overlap the dialogue and music on the cut or over a different shot, which helps remove that abrupt feeling some other fan edits tend to have when material is removed or scenes rearranged, and it also improves the performances and the pace. The movies move at break-neck speed, perhaps maybe a little too edit-happy, nearly every shot it seems is trimmed even if just a few frames at the beginning and end of the shot. It's okay to sometimes see the full movement of an action, it's okay to see a character thinking before they speak, or to let a moment breathe a little, and I don't necessarily understand some things that were cut or trimmed, however those are all minor personal differences I have with the edit, doesn't impact the skill on display, and it does not take away from the enjoyment (I'm just nitpicky because I've see the movies, in various forms, too many times). They are a vast improvement over the original versions. Knocking off nearly 30 mins from Attack of the Clones while still adding the deleted scenes is impressive.

Changes that stuck out as superior to other fanedits: The transitions of the scenes involving Anakin/Padme on Naboo; Palpatine's physical change in ROTS (still somewhat inexplicable but not much can be done about it except to leave it as is, which I honestly would be fine with); The handling of the gungans and JarJar; all of the battle scenes; removal of all dialogue during the Obi-Wan/Anakin Duel; I liked the added Anakin introduction from the Obi-Wan show; I think all of the Delegation of 2000 scenes were included here, while other edits use some or most but not all, I think they're all important and needed; C-3P0 is removed from TPM and mostly removed from AOTC, while inferred to be a different protocol droid through a change of voice in the brief scene he does appear in. Both those changes are welcome. However, I don't understand why some of his lines in ROTS were retained and others weren't. I don't know why he doesn't inform Padme that Anakin returned to the Jedi Temple while his line about "getting the hang of this flying business" (considering his removal from AOTC) is still there.

Changes I wasn't a fan of (this effected my rating for Narrative): The removal of dialogue informing us Anakin has never won or even finished a pod race. I understand there's awkward kid acting, but that information drives up the tension of the race and is needed; The removal of the asteroid scene in AOTC, sure it's unnecessary but it's fun and the seismic charges are cool; The conveyor belt scene is a little too short, could have still cut it considerably while keeping some of the tension of Padme's impending doom, or just remove it altogether; The birth scene in ROTS should have been left as is, including Frankenstein Vader. The reference is deliberate, and only his "NOOOOO" needs to be altered/removed, the intercutting is somewhat altered as well which diminishes the full impact of the scene IMHO.

Overall, these are now my current go-to for TPM and AOTC (though HAL9000's Approaching Storm is also a great edit, I think this one beats it if only for the way the Naboo sequence plays out), I think ROTS is a tie with DominicCobb's, there are things I prefer in each one, but I really like the new tone set by DominicCobb by using more music from the OT. In any case, great job to Spence! Clearly a skilled editor, I had a great time watching these. Thanks for your work!

I've been following the Prequel edit scene for a while now and have been continually astonished at how each new edit seems to capture or improve some new aspect of the film that hasn't been touched before. After having watched Spence's previous two edits, I was amused at how little TPM was edited, how *much* AOTC was edited, and now...how much more this similarly revised version of Revenge of the Sith lands after watching the first two. The audio mix is not quite seamless but close enough that most wouldn't notice unless they were paying close attention (which I was). That said, everything works and got emotional all over again by the end of the film. The additions to the 'Order 66' montage worked very well, too. Absolutely loved it. Highly recommended!
