Intention:
This edit started as a recreation of a very simple edit I made back in 2018 when I didn't know that the fanediting community even existed.
Throughout the creation of this edit, with help and input from members of the community, it evolved into a much more ambitious project that I never would have thought I was capable of before.
Despite this being one of the most commonly edited movies in one of the most commonly edited franchises, I sincerely believe this edit has high quality and unique changes that will make it worthwhile for even a SW edit connoisseur to watch.
I hope you enjoy it!

I did all of the editing for this in Wondershare Filmora. Some of the VFX were done using EbSynth, but the majority of the VFX scenes were done by animating masks and JPGs.

First off I would like to say that as many others I enjoyed the theatrical version of this film. To be honest is the only movie from the sequel trilogy that I enjoyed. However I always felt when watching it that it still had a lot of humour which made me think always of this movie as it being made for a younger audience. This edit took everything I didn't much enjoy of this film out and left the movie as what it should've been. A serious entry to a new Star Wars trilogy, and it is just perfect.
However I still think it would be better if some changes like the ones bellow where fixed:
- The intro with all the yellow letters with the plot is already disappearing instead of it disappearing all at once at the end.
- There's a transition I think from where General Haggs tells Kylo Ren his men are well prepared to Finn appearing on Jakku that has no swipe right transition which is very much used in Star Wars and I think it would look better if it used that.
- There's a moment where the entire resistance is watching a hologram of the Star Killer Base next to the original one to compare their sizes and it completely cut that and I think it doesn't work as you can still see the Death Star next to it in one frame, personally I would keep the comparison scene as it shows how much bigger the new one is compared to the old one to the audience.
- In the scene where Kylo is about to kill his father Han he was going to turn but then the light came out and it all turns dark which is what makes Kylo snap back to his bad mood. I think it should show how the light is vanishing until it gets dark as right now it just goes from bright to dark and it feels like something is missing in between like a shot of the light vanishing maybe.
- I think it should keep Rey also screaming when Han dies as it shows her pain too and the quick connection he had with him.
- Overall this movie would be much better if it changed what I've said and if it provided a better quality for it as right now it doesn't look 1080p.
To conclude this review I think it is safe to say that I enjoyed this edit more than the original, but I would enjoy it much more if these changes were fixed. From now on I'm confident to say that this is my definite way of watching Episode VII from now on. Thank you.

Awesome, creative edit! Overall pacing is improved, comedy is reduced (but not removed entirely) and characters actually stay in character.
The new Starkiller Base alone is what should have been done from the very beginning! Now it's actually an original idea, which is awesome!
The Rey vision is fantastic and a great use of provoking nostalgia that actually serves a narative purpose (disney take note)!
Pacing is good, and most cuts are invisible.
The Rathtar scene cuts were terrific, you improved the scene quite a bit.
Any Star Wars fan owes it to himself to watch this.
