As someone who did enjoy the original series, this definitely made it much better.

I thought the series was good, but a bit slow and meandering and the slow pace made it feel anticlimactic. This edit fixes most of the problems I had with the series (and the ones that remain were out of an editors realm of control) and it's a much more satisfying experience.

Unfortunately a few things have lost some of their weight and emotional impact due to having less time devoted to their build up (I won't spoil), but this was probably unavoidable and the more exciting pace is certainly worth the trade off in my opinion.

This is the best Kenobi out there, in my opinion.

As bored-at-300am said in an earlier review, the source really is two plus hours of content stretched to an unreasonable six. Unfortunately, even trimmed to 2:20, it doesn't quite feel like a movie. Some of this may be due to Deborah Chow's direction. She has a lot of experience with TV, but none(?) with a feature length story. It's possible they may have opted for a different director had they stayed with the original concept, but I also suspect Chow would have handled some of it differently with a shorter runtime.

Spence has edited this with a seasoned and deft hand, and at 2:20 it really doesn't feel like anything is missing. However, it still feels like a low budget picture filmed almost exclusively in The Volume, and with less production value than The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett. The decision to fill the volume with over-dark browns and greys for most of the runtime...One wonders what they were thinking. A shaky camera can only hide so much.

A/V QUALITY

Essentially perfect, and I watched the smallest file.

VISUAL EDITING

I really want to give this top marks, but there's a moment at 17:16 where we can see a character begin to speak before the wipe and it brought me out of the experience a little bit.

AUDIO EDITING

Strong editing here, and the new music is welcome. I noted a couple very tiny things in my notes.

NARRATIVE

The core story is very much intact, and is only improved by what was removed.

ENJOYMENT

Where the original would be a 6/10, I feel this would be a strong 8.5/10, so I'll round up. :)

I gave this a watch and enjoyed it so much more than the poorly executed dragged out TV series. Thanks for trimming out so much of the filler and horrible elements of the original. This I believe is the best possible way to watch this and enjoy Ewan's Obi Wan story.

Thanks for letting me view your work!

Excellent edit, superb quality. The one true way to watch Obi-Wan Kenobi - I now consider this version to be canon.

Spence has done an amazing job with this edit! I wasn't totally sure how a six episode tv series could be cut down to movie length, but Spence pulled it off masterfully. The story is more focused on Obi-Wan, Leia and Vader, so a lot things not directly related to them is cut. There were a few things from the series that I missed seeing here, but with the slight refocusing of the story I get why they were cut. All in all, this version of the story is great and I highly recommend checking it out, whether you're a fan of the series or not.

The editing was perfect and I really liked the inclusion of the Fox fanfare and the original Lucasfilm logo! Once again Spence shows why they're one of the best faneditors!
