I really enjoyed this. Much better paced for the story being told while still feeling like nothing is rushed or confusing. Characters still feel as though they have depth and clear character arcs. All the transitions are seemless. You would never know from watching this that it had about 2 hrs cut from it. It still looks cheap to me compared to other Star Wars TV shows but that is not Spence's fault.

Though there were a few sequences from the show that I quite enjoyed that were removed-- like Obi-Wan haggling with the Jawas, Leia’s interaction with her adopted mother in the forest, and of course the Prequel sparring duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin-- the narrative was fine and the pacing was improved without them. Other than a few janky cuts (like when Leia was kidnapped) the editing was nearly seamless.

Highly recommended.

This is the best Kenobi out there, in my opinion.

As bored-at-300am said in an earlier review, the source really is two plus hours of content stretched to an unreasonable six. Unfortunately, even trimmed to 2:20, it doesn't quite feel like a movie. Some of this may be due to Deborah Chow's direction. She has a lot of experience with TV, but none(?) with a feature length story. It's possible they may have opted for a different director had they stayed with the original concept, but I also suspect Chow would have handled some of it differently with a shorter runtime.

Spence has edited this with a seasoned and deft hand, and at 2:20 it really doesn't feel like anything is missing. However, it still feels like a low budget picture filmed almost exclusively in The Volume, and with less production value than The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett. The decision to fill the volume with over-dark browns and greys for most of the runtime...One wonders what they were thinking. A shaky camera can only hide so much.

A/V QUALITY

Essentially perfect, and I watched the smallest file.

VISUAL EDITING

I really want to give this top marks, but there's a moment at 17:16 where we can see a character begin to speak before the wipe and it brought me out of the experience a little bit.

AUDIO EDITING

Strong editing here, and the new music is welcome. I noted a couple very tiny things in my notes.

NARRATIVE

The core story is very much intact, and is only improved by what was removed.

ENJOYMENT

Where the original would be a 6/10, I feel this would be a strong 8.5/10, so I'll round up. :)

Absolutely incredible work! This edit makes the series into a movie worth of standing in my Star Wars movie collection. A little over 2 hours of pure Star Wars and enjoyment.
The story is coherent, and even if the bad acting of the Third Sister can't be completely removed, the character is given a pathetic arc that makes it more bearable.
The movie is now much more focused on the relationships between Obi-Wan and Leia, and between Obi-Wan and Vader, and follows a classic Star Wars structure.
Only downside, even in its full quality format (23GB), a lost of noise in dark scenes and posterization.

I can't recommend it enough. Don't bother watching the series, just watch this!

It feels a bit overlong and a couple of times towards the end the editing is noticeable, this is still an absolute improvement over any other fan edit out there as well as the OG show. Absolutely worth watching and honestly its impossible to go back to the show after seeing this.
