Mockingjay Part 1 Cutlist

Mockingjay Part 1 original runtime 123 minutes has been reduced to 61 minutes.

The beginning of the movie has been completely changed, I have merged the track "Remind Her Who The Enemy Is" from the Original Score with the track "The Hanging Tree" to produce the score for the beginning of the film.

The film begins with a quote from "The Treaty of the Treason" just like the original Hunger Games movie did. The quote used for the original movie was invented for the film. The text was marked as being sourced from The Treaty of the Treason whose text never appeared in the books. The text that I have written to begin this film is:
"From the Treaty of the Treason:"
"And the peace will be a contract.
Each district will supply the Capitol
in return for order and security.
Refusal to work will be an act of
treason punishable by death."
This is a condensed version of President Snow's speech from Mockingjay Part 1 that has been cut in this edit.

The movie then begins with the attack on the Hydroelectric Dam in District 5 followed by the titles "2 Months Earlier" "District 13"

The movie then begins as normal

The titles for Mockingjay Part 1 have been removed

After Katniss collapses after witnessing the corpses in District 12 the next scene is Katniss awakening from a horror dream

Plutarch's insinuation to President Coin that Katniss is The Mockingjay only when in costume is cut

All scenes concerning Prim's cat have been cut

Coin's speech to District 13 announcing her arrangement with Katniss has been cut

The first interview with Peeta has been inserted after Katniss is shown Cinna's Mockingjay designs

The filming of the first "propo" using the green screen fx has been reduced to a minimum (i.e. there's only one 'take')

The talk about District 8 being a relatively safe place to send Katniss to film "propos" has been cut so that there is a sense of danger in the proceeding scenes

Snow's reference to his cut speech has been removed

Katniss hunting with Gale in the woods and Peeta's second interview have been cut completely

Katniss' second trip to District 12, her relationship elements with Gale, and her singing cut completely

The rebel attack in the woods leads directly to Peeta's third interview where he speaks about the rebel attacks on the grainery and dam.

Peeta is not shown images of Katniss singing during this interview, he betrays the Capitol seemingly of his own accord

The bombing of 13 has many scenes cut including Katniss with the cat and Katniss with Finnick

The power failure during the bombing scene leads directly to Katniss hiding in the tunnel, the discovery of Snow's roses and the proceeding "propo" shoot is cut completely

Haymitch tells Katniss that a rescue operation is already underway to free the victors and this leads immediately to Katniss waiting with Finnick anxious for the return of the rescue mission volunteers

The Zero Dark Panem sequence is cut completely

Coin's speech that ends Mockingjay Part 1 is cut completely

Mockingjay Part 2 Cutlist

Mockingjay Part 2 original runtime 137 minutes has been reduced to 110 minutes.

The opening scene where Katniss' swolen neck is examined is cut, her injury is much less severe in this edit to allow for a believably faster recovery

Mockingjay Part 2 titles are cut and replaced with a unused shot (reversed) of Peeta struggling against his bonds taken from Part 1

The scene where Coin tells Katniss that she cannot send her to the Capitol has been reworked to indicate that Coin wants to keep Katniss under her thumb where she can be controlled. Some audio adjustments were made to blend this scene with Katniss' second meeting with Coin

The entire sequence where Katniss and Gale travel to district 2, Katniss gets shot, Katniss recovers from her wound in the hospital have been eliminated

The dinner scene at Snow's mansion has been tweaked and now follows Peeta's attack on Katniss. The scene now appears to show Snow speaking of Katniss' death by Peeta's hands instead of by the rebels in district 2

The scene where Katniss speaks with Peeta in the hospital has been cut

Plutarch's mention of Katniss' gunshot wound has been cut

Cressida's annoying "directing" of Katniss' actions have been cut

The scene where Snow is made aware of Katniss' being caught on video alive following the tar trap has been cut along with the first indication that Snow is dying from the poisons in his body. This reveal works much better as a surprise to the viewer at the end of the movie, humanizing him at a time where he has already lost all of his power.

Katniss' self loathing after the death of Finnick has been reduced to a minimum

The scene where Gale and Peeta discuss who Katniss loves is cut. There is no indication in this edit or in the trilogy of movies as a whole that Katniss would have ever ended up with Gale, it was a terribly developed plot device throughout, and has been rightly eliminated.

The idealistic ending where poor CGI and makeup effects are used to age up Katniss and make her look more like her mother has been eliminated completely. I accept that this change will be hard to accept by purist followers of the book. But I emplore you to see this movie for what it is, a gritty ugly war movie. A thought provoking tender moment of 2 characters learning to live with the atrocities they've experienced is much more satisfying than a "everything worked out great in the end" finale.

The ending has been rescored to accomodate this change

My wife and I watched this edit and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tagline for this edit, "The Epic Finale Hunger Games Fans Deserve", is 100% accurate. The Hunger Games took a page from Harry Potter and Twilight and split the final book into two movies because "there was just too much story to tell". What that obviously means is they wanted to milk the franchise. What Jerick does here is condense the story into a single 2 hour and 50 min. movie, making it a much more enjoyable and non-bloated finale. We didn't miss anything that was cut. Picture and audio quality are excellent, and I didn't spot any edits.

My only criticism of the film is I didn't care for the attack on the damn in the beginning. I wish it remained where it was and had the movie start as it did theatrically (minus the quote... that was a good call). Other then that I cannot recommend this edit enough.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! In regards to the attack on the damn sequence, the entire section where Katniss travels back to District 12 and then to the outskirts of the town where she begins to sing "The Hanging Tree" song was a real slog that was cut from my edit entirely. There wasn't really a way to insert the dam sequence without some sort of musical buildup. (I invented one from the existing score to begin the film) It's true that I could have inserted the singing scene after the visit to District 8 but it would have both been a very ugly edit and a radical shift to the tone of the film. The other option would have been to cut the dam attack from the film completely but I personally think it works as a more exciting start to the film.

Great job! I don't remember much about the original Mockingjay movies, it's been awhile since I've seen them, but this edit makes Mockingjay feel so complete that there's honestly nothing I can recall that's been cut. It keeps all the best and most important parts, and ultimately turns this into, in my opinion, the best Hunger Games movie (granted I haven't seen Songbirds and Snakes yet, but of the original trilogy, this edit is my favorite). Highly recommended for people who want the Mockingjay movie that should've been.

Woooow this edit really lived up to the title: The Mockingjay. Felt like I was on an emotional journey with Katniss from beginning to end. The growth of her just wanting to survive the games and save Peeta to her being the scapegoat in Coins strategy to then deciding to leave District 13 and take matters into her own hands. Katniss being the face of the rebellion which she didn't want but came to understand her influence and the wider picture. And then in the end where she continues to play the game and blindsided Coin to think she was on her side of continuing the hunger games. Then when Katniss finally went home and the game was over and there was peace she finally started to grieve her sister and found comfort in Prims cat. Then the little things like starting to hunt again and having intimate moments with Peeta made it full cycle. Really preferred this ending aswell. Just makes the ending romantic which is ironic as in the first movie it was a tactic for Katniss and Peeta to be star-crossed lovers but at the end of this movie you realise they really are lovers who found comfort in surviving the hunger games and the rebellion. Nice peaceful ending and great edit - well done. Will definitely recommend! P.s i read all the books and always thought this movie shouldn't have been split as ruins the pacing and urgency of the story.

Decent. There are a few things I would change, but overall, a better watch than the original. I would barley change anything about your part II edit which says a lot given how much was removed. Two of my favorite changes were removing the scene where Prim goes missing in search of the cat and the removal of most of the beginning of part 2.

improvement suggestions
-Remove dam attack as opening: Didn't feel like it worked as an opening.
-Bring back Katniss entering house at district 12: This scene shows that Snow is always around and also reintroduces the cat.
-Cut Snow ordering to bomb hospital: It's better if the hospital bombing is a surprise than knowing it's about to happen.
-Cut district 7 scene: Not necessary to the story and kind of disrupts pace.
-Bring back return to District 12: Initially I would have agreed to remove the return to District 12 because of redundancy, but the story feels incomplete without it.
-Bring back cat flashlight and Finnick conversation: This helps the pace because cutting directly to Katniss and Haymitch conversation felt abrupt.
-Bring back scene of Plutarch talking to Katniss about sending Prim to Peeta: Cutting directly to Prim seeing Peeta was confusing.

Possible suggestions-
-Make Snow and Peeta deleted scene as opening.
-Keep the Snow scene where he executes people (without the scene of him having his beard trimmed).
-Remove Plutark talking to Effie: Story doesn't necessarily need the scene.
-Keep hunting scene: I feel like there should still be some of the love triangle since it was apparent in the first two movies. Keeping this scene keeps the triangle at a minimal and also helps with pace.
-Keep Peeta's second interview: kind of an important scene to keep.
-Remove Snow's toast for time and focus.
-Bring epilogue back: The epilogue ending was bittersweet but conclusive. I would make it stay as a post credit scene or just bring it back to the end.

Wow this was so good, so much better than I remember the films being and I saw them at the cinema. The story was much more cohesive and less cringe, and it helped I binged the whole "Triology" in a weekend, but I very much enjoyed this edit, never noticed an odd cut or anything just perfect single movie.

Brilliantly made. My ideal way of watching now.
It's been a while since I watched Mockingjay 1 + 2, and longer since I've read the books, admittedly, but wow, how seamless. I had to look up the changelist to have any remote clue how it has been changed, it's that good.
Well done, Jerick.
