I was really excited for this, hoping it would make a piece of crap movie into something bearable. It does, to some extent, but I still can’t stand this movie. With the exception of Unbreakable, it’s still my least favorite Shamalamdingdong movie.
Also: when Joaquin Phoenix is talking to Sigourney Weaver about her box, it then goes to another shot of them talking – there is a very noticeable jump cut there, with a shot from the removed scene still visible for a split second.
And one thing that should have been removed that wasn’t was when the girl goes to the woods to get the medicine, they still have with them the “magic stones” that her father told her about (in the theatrical version.) because that scene was removed, reference to the magic stones should also have been removed from the edit.
Otherwise, though, I was much happier with the REAL THREAT EDIT than I was with the theatrical version. Not having the “twist” of the creatures being fake made the movie much more tolerable, since it was such a shoddy twist to begin with.
