Original Running Time:
50 minutes
Fanedit Release Date:
Fanedit Running Time:
25 minutes
Time Cut:
25 minutes
Synopsis:
The Hood has put a bomb on the new atomic-airliner: Fireflash and only International Rescue can save them!
Intention:
To make the pilot episode of Thunderbirds more in-line with the rest of the series, less spoilers and as short as the original pilot before it was doubled in run-time becasue of executive meddling.
Additional Notes:
It is NOT a recreation of the original pilot.
Other Sources:
audio for the opening titles and the Video and audio for the closing titles came from the next episode: Pit Of Peril.
Release Information:
Digital
Editing Details:
My goal was to make it as short as the original pilot(which was 25 minutes), I experimented with various cuts until I got something which was easy to follow and didn't drag on as much as Red Dwarf: Enter The Red.
Cuts and Additions:
- New opening which do not contain spoilers and different music.
- Removed Kyrano and Tin-Tin completely and all references to them
- Opened edit with Firefllash about to take-off
- Removed un-removable shot of bomb(becasue of audio issues) by inserting a shot of the control tower and placing the new title text over it
- trimmed Fireflash take-off
- trimmed hood making phone-call becasue; 1: Why wear a mask when your making a phone call? At least now you only see him from behind and 2; to remove ad-break. So now we cut from The end of the phone call to Fireflash being informed of the bomb
- When Fireflash pilots are being informed of the bomb, re-used shots from earlier and later in the episode to remove pilot standing up(he has no reason to in this edit becasue Tin-Tin is absent, which was the reason in the original)
- removed passengers being informed of them returning to London airport
- when John looks down at earth. Removed model-shot of Fireflash and inserted Tracy island introduction, which in this edit is John telling Jeff about the bomb.
- Inserted shot of Fireflash to bridge gap between Jeff being informed about the bomb and the briefing
- Trimmed briefing to remove shot of boys responding to Jeff to remove continuity error with Alan's voice
- Cut out Fireflash failing to shake the bomb loose
- trimmed Scott's call to John to remove reference to bomb loose
- cut out everything with Bob Meddings
- trimmed Thunderbird 1 landing to remove the Hood
- Trimmed police cars arriving at Thunderbird 1 to remove ad-break
- Trimmed Hood taking photos inside Thunderbird 1
- Trimmed Hood's getaway
- Removed first failed attempt at rescuing the Fireflash. This meant replacing every shot of elevator car no.3 with no.4 car(which I did)
- Trimmed rescue
- ended edit with The Hood being defeated and swearing revenge on International Rescue
- replaced end credits with those from Pit Of Peril
- Added fan-editor logo and the end.

That was a pleasant little use of my time. No hard cuts detected, plot rattled along, didn't even notice Tin Tin was missing. A splendid job.
