Synopsis:
Major Changes:

• All scenes that show a digitized young "real" Kevin Flynn are removed. Clu is the only one to wear the Young Kevin face.

• Scenes in the real world are extremely trimmed – we are in the world of TRON by the 11th minute of the movie. No sequel bait, no franchise seeds.

• Terrible dialogue is trimmed wherever possible to remove the cringe factor. (Lots of “whats his problem” and “now this I can do” type stuff.)

• Quorra is edited to be less the "born sexy yesterday" trope (a woman defined both by her immense sex appeal and her intense childlike naivety, a figure created almost entirely to be leered over or as a prize to be won by the male protagonist.)

• The “infinitely wise and infinitely naïve” aspects of the ISOs, and that they will “CHANGE THE WORLD,” is downplayed. Kevin simply feels responsible for her life, teaching her and protecting her, like the father he SHOULD have been to Sam.

• Tron’s final change of sides is adjusted slightly. Some of his lines were removed (more mysterious) and his color change happened during the mental change. This allows him to simply “turn off” in the water instead of looking like there's a chance he is coming back when his color changes in the water. That was just confusing.

• "Show, don’t tell" principles in effect as much as possible.
Intention:
Having worked closely with nutty founders and CEOs in the past and watching how family often came second, the buried message resonated for me. There was a lot to love about the movie. And with the news of Daft Punk's breakup, this movie deserved polishing.

Ultimately, Tron Perfection is a story about the conflict of man vs himself, and less about Sam Flynn (who is merely our entry-point into the Grid.) Kevin Flynn spent so much in his crusade to get revenge on Dillinger in the original Tron that once he got his revenge, made Clu, and set about to create a new Grid, he was mirroring comparable character flaws that included massive ambition married to a sense of entitlement. The conflict is between old Kevin and Clu, who at the most literal level represents the obsessive ambition of the younger Kevin. Clu can't be destroyed so much as reabsorbed back into Flynn by Flynn recognizing and confronting Clu as himself. Flynn's resentment in the first Tron film is simultaneously understandable, but inevitably sets the stage for his avatar Clu placing his own legacy and self-aggrandizement above the benefit of others. After Clu sets his master plan into action with a page to the outside world, the old Kevin can no longer escape the consequences of this abdication merely by inaction. To save his real and adopted children, Kevin has to embrace both the reality of Clu's propensity for evil (which is his own) AND his own shortcomings as a father, and finally resolve the conflict within himself.
Additional Notes:
I reviewed some of the youtube TRON deepfakes to see if any were worth reaching out to the creators for help on the edit, but they all seemed to lack any emotion. I suspect its due to putting a deepfake on an already digitized face, but I decided to stick with the Uncanny Clu. I think is works here.

• Quorra is edited to be less leering at Sam and less inquisitive about the outside world, hopefully tempering the "born sexy yesterday" trope (a woman defined both by her immense sex appeal and her intense childlike naivety, a figure created almost entirely to be leered over or as a prize to be won by the male protagonist.)

Do you really dislike Tron: Legacy? Yes? Then this edit is not going to make you like it.
Were you ambivalent about Tron: Legacy? Yes? Then you might really enjoy this edit!

Wakeupkeo trims over 30 minutes from this film, and I didn't miss a single one. It's a leaner, slicker piece of big popcorn cheese. But popcorn cheese it is. With many of the worst lines and most pointless side-plots gone, we're still left with a film that really has nothing to say and that's built on mind-numbingly typical dialogue. Props to the editor for making the film's strongest asset, the amazing Daft Punk soundtrack, flow smoothly and undisturbed. There were a few lines where the audio editing stood out to me, but nothing so jarring that I had to mark off points. Keeping the music flow intact was the truly impressive bit. Visual editing is even more flawless (I had a moment of slight confusion in the CLU/TRON fight, but not sure if that was due to the fanediting or original editing and I'm too unmotivated to check.)

Did I "enjoy" the narrative? Well, not that much. But more than the original, so it seems inappropriate to take points off here. This film is definitely an improvement on the original Tron: Legacy. It's still a huge wasted opportunity and I'd recommend the animated series instead (Tron: Uprising- amazing cast!) but Wakeupkeo has succeeded at making a bad movie less bad.

A brilliant edit, and definitely a lot closer to a worthy sequel to Tron,
I really loved this edit - the trimming creates a streamlined narrative, which in turn allows us to focus on the plot and the world without annoying distractions or terrible lines. I also greatly appreciated the work done on trimming the "born sexy yesterday" trope - Thank you!
Two little things that bothered me:
(1) The new introduction, while being 'straight and to the point', feels like an info-dump. Not the greatest tool for exposition, but considering the source materials it is understandable.
(2) During the meeting with Castor/Zuse, the soundtrack changes three or four times in the span of 4 minutes. While I appreciate the cuts that were made, the constant changes made the scene feel... rushed.
Either way, this edit is highly recommended.

An enjoyable watch.

While I do not consider TRON LEGACY to be a Bad Movie, it was flawed and this edit does rectify many of the issues I had with the original.

The brilliance of this edit is the new opening, which changes the tone of the entire film. Instead of being a Spectacle Adventure with character bits scattered throughout, it now becomes a Character Mystery story highlighted by dazzling FXs. A very welcomed change.

I watched portions of both the HQ MP4 Stereo and 5.1 for comparison, both look very solid. Most of the cuts work very well, there were only a couple of times where the conversation cadence sounded slightly stilted due to some dialogue being omitted. The noticeable technical issue for me was the audio mix seemed to be on the soft/low side. As I often had to turn up the volume during many of the conversation scenes.

A good edit definitely worth the watch for Tron fans. :)

This fan edit offers a streamlined, tighter and Perfected ;) version of Tron: Legacy, reducing over half an hour of the original film without it feeling overly trimmed. By focusing on a more intimate narrative centred on Kevin Flynn and his son, the story becomes more personal and less sprawling. The edit particularly benefits Quorra, toning down her dumbness and instead highlighting her role as Flynn's apprentice and Sam’s future partner. The faster pace turns Sam into more of a decision-maker who adapts quickly to the new world and this cut operates more on "Do or Die" principle for him, rather than just a lost boy we have to watch find his bearings for two hours. That said, the edit sacrifices some key character moments and worldbuilding, making Sam and Quorra feel a bit underdeveloped but this lesser evil in this case serves the edit well for my previous point. The Daft Punk score was seamlessly altered, blending perfectly with the trimmed scenes. Overall, it's a fantastic reimagining for those who prefer a more serious and concise version. I especially applaud the intro into the movie and being in the world of Tron in 10 minutes. Great work Wakeupkeo, I am looking forward to your future edits and thank you again for turning this movie into something rewatchable.

This is a tough Edit to make. The movie is known for its visual and aural experience.
The video looks good especially in HQ version but the audio could have been improved. Didn't get the same feeling as original.

A great reimagining of a movie that in its original form should have been as good as its visual and score. I can't believe there is over a half hour of the original gone and you basically can't tell at all. At a tight 90 it becomes a more intimate story of Kevin and his three children, which I feel like we don't see enough of in scifi. I wish there had been a few more character moments kept in so I felt like I knew Sam and Quorra better, but I still was invested in the story even so. I especially appreciated the toning down of Quorra's not like other girls/born sexy yesterday personality, and instead focused on her being Kevin's apprentice and Sam's equal. Sam remains a pretty blah character but with this new pacing he's now just a vehicle for the narrative and not an annoying person to be around for 2 hours. As with the original, I wish we got more worldbuilding that wasn't just exposition, more time understanding Rinzler/Tron, and more character development, but overall I enjoyed this immensely! It's a great success especially with what you had to work with from the original movie.

As a huge fan of Tron: Legacy, and the rest of Joseph Kosinski's filmography, I was intrigued by the prospect of an improved version of the already fantastic film, but where I was hoping for perfection, pun intended, I got something that felt more hollow than the original. Now the editing alone was absolutely fantastic. Daft Punk's score is seamlessly, and I mean seamlessly, altered to fit the newly shrunken and trimmed scenes, and whilst what was cut was cut well, I feel this edit took out too much of what I liked and left a lot to be desired in the long run. Comedy lines which showed the naivety of characters were removed to make the story more serious and although I understand the desire to jump right into the grid and remove CGI Kevin Flynn from the opening, but these moments set up a character dynamic of father and son, the very thing that this edit sought out to reinforce. It's possible that objectively this edit is superior, but it removed the heart from the film and left a quirky sci-fi as a hollow shell of its former self. Great editing skills, but poor choice of scenes.

Due my students undying love of the excellent Tron Uprising cartoon, I've been forced to sit through Tron Legacy more times than I would have ever wanted. Wakeupkeo's edit has made that process much easier, thankfully. The structural problems of the second act remain a serious problem, but the first and third act really move and work wonderfully.
