This one of those rare fan edits I like to rewatch a couple of times a year.
Not because it is brilliant masterpiece but just because it is a enjoyable, popcorn fan edit.
It is a straight forward cut job, restructuring a few scenes, cutting of silly subplots but the end result is a fun, well done, escapist low budget space opera. A vast improvement over the original.
The original WING COMMANDER was an average movie at best, it had some enjoyable moments but they were often lost or overshadowed by some of the more juvinile soap elements.
This fan edit had thankfully removed all the romance and focuses solely on the impending invasion of Earth and the valiant efforts of the crew of TIGERCLAW to slow down the invaders. This is basically a classic World War II B-Movie in space. And it works pretty well.
The audio and video edits are very good. I did not notice any audio glitches and the all the cuts worked very well. If I had one thing to criticize, I would have definitely edited out "The Kiss" at the end of the movie. With all other romance elements having been excised from the movie, it just seemed jarringly out of place to me.
All in all, a definite improvement over the original. THUMBS UP!

I was one of those who benefited when ThrowgnCpr reupped the links for Lewis886's Wing Commander.
This was one of those awkward films for me.
The A/V editing was fine, insofar as I could not hear or see abrupt changes.
My biggest issue was with the narrative. The original WC was more or less stupid. Accent more.
Lewis886 removed the nonsense at the expense of coherency.
This struck me as Readers Digest condensed version.
It was watchable, and fairly enjoyable, but there might be other flicks to rewatch before I return to this one.

It has been a while since I have seen the original film. I picked up a copy of it to compare the cuts, but have yet to rewatch the original. I think that lewis has achieved his goal here in making the movie focused on the invasion. We all know that this was not a great movie to begin with, but it is now more enjoyable, or at least more tolerable. Most of the cheese has been successfully cut out. There were a couple one-liners that I would have still chopped off, but all in all very well done. Without watching the original recently, the edits were unnoticeable to me, so the editing was well done imo.
video quality was very clear and not milky at all, and the audio seemed well mixed too. I am not a fan of the score for this film and would have like to seen (or rather heard) a change here, but that was not the intent of this edit.
well done. i highly recommend this for some light enjoyable sci-fi action, and I look forward to more great edits by lewis886 in the future!!
