Just finished watching this. Actually, I’m of the opinion that after the first X-Men movie, they started to get worse, and never recovered. I liked the first one, but the second one was overblown and spent too much time on secondary characters, and had a stupid ending (Why couldn’t Jean control the plane from INSIDE the plane?), the third one was a mess, Wolverine was awful and cheesy, and First Class violated continuity left and right and was equally as cheesy (in my opinion). I’ll try not to let my opinion of the other films color this review though.
Story Editing:
The idea of editing the X-Men films so they actually fit with each other is a great idea, and the cuts really work. I never felt like any information was missing. I liked the addition of the bar scene as an opener, however, I felt that the inclusion of the footage during the credits gave away too much. Wolverine’s story, to me, works much better as a mystery for the first film. This ruins the mystery. Other than that, no complaints story wise.
Score: 8 out of 10
Video Editing:
No problems here that I noticed. I watched the AVI version. I did not download the DVD.
Score: 10 out of 10
Audio Editing:
Your audio transitions were done very well, especially where you removed Kitty Pride. Had I not known about that from the original, I wouldn’t have even noticed. There was only one transition problem I saw, and that was during the school montage. The music changes volume suddenly when Bobby introduces himself. Also, when the professor says, “I’ll make a deal with you Logan.” it seemed a little abrupt. Minor gripes, I know.
Other than the transitions, there is a problem, at least in the AVI (not sure about the DVD), with the entire audio track being higher pitched than in the original film. All the voices are slightly higher pitched than they should be and the music is in a different key. Maybe a problem when it was rendered?
Score: 7 out of 10
A good attempt to make the X-Men films actually fit with each other.
Final Score: 8 out of 10
