The Man never wanted any trouble. All he wanted to do was oggle naked ladies through his binoculars. He really shouldn't have gone off into the woods that day...
Intention:
To tell a story with zero dialogue. To make another sync-type edit, using progressive music to drive the action.
Other Sources:
- “Third Eye (Instrumental)” composed by Tool, performed by Vitamin String Quartet
- drugs & booze

"MP4" is through Vimeo
Editing Details:
I wanted to do something with “Timecrimes” but didn’t know what. When I heard the string rendition of “Third Eye” I knew I’d found my constant. Then it was just a matter of editing the visuals to the tune of the music.
Cuts and Additions:
This has a “grindhouse” look to it; which is to say, I added sepia tone grading and film scratches. Because screw it, why not.

The choice of font and grindhouse effects aren't great. I didn't personally think the music was that appropriate either since it's too consistently lively and not really dynamic enough. Nevertheless, what's there is well-tweaked to coincide with certain visual cues. The narrative has generally been trimmed effectively and mostly functions well in this short format. However, it became unclear what the motives were for what transpires at the end, which also felt rushed. I have seen and liked the original film, but can't recall all the details. Overall, this is a decent alternative to the original film, but as another user has said, the original should be watched first.

Time Travel Consecution, Episode 6

This short takes the first two runs in Timecrimes and aggressively cuts them down, whilst discarding all original audio in favour of a well chosen score that keeps the tension high. A very well done edit. It's impressive how much of the film Neglify has gotten into only 12 minutes.

Before watching this edit, I strongly recommend having seen the original first, it's an excellent film and this edit spoils one of the main reveals.

From the DVD, Neglify Shorts Vol 1, and the Time Travel Consecution. This was from Timecrimes, a Spanish film I was unfamiliar with. From reading IMDB, I got the feeling Neg hugged the original plot tightly while shearing away an incredible amount of time.

Video: MPEG 720 X 480p. Bit of damage on this, deliberately done. I usually don’t like scratches or grain, specifically in recent films or movies I have seen because the results look sloppy and amateurish. I didn’t know this film, however, so I was completely fooled into thinking this was a cheap 70s production. I laughed when I realized my false assumption later. Well done.

Audio: 2 Channel AC3, 192 Kbps. One of the best/worst music tracks I have heard. The edgy, skittering violin makes one feel like they’re trapped in a room full of mosquitoes and crawly bugs. Selected music performs slight of hand distraction as it is so irritating one does not focus on jump cuts or any of the “laboratory bits.”

Enjoyment: End of the day, I appreciated more than enjoyed this. I chuckled at the end, but I had figured out what was going on and who was what. Thankfully, this was only 13 minutes instead of the original 92 minutes.

Nevertheless, for me, this was funnier than I expected and I laughed out loud a couple of times.

This is magnificent stuff. In choosing to remove all non-music soundtrack elements, Neglify has managed to nonetheless craft a short that's extremely unsettling and very effective. The narrative thread is clear and quite straightforward to follow in broad strokes, and by focusing on The Man's struggle to understand what's happening around him Neglify we get a better understanding of his confusion and fear.

The music was a *perfect* choice, and Neglify deserves a great deal of credit for the time and effort it must have taken to synchronise so many of the events in the short to suitable cues in the music.

Visually it's great - I don't have any special fondness for grindhouse visuals, but they are neither intrusive nor extreme here and mainly add the feel of an old European horror VHS.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

It's "Grindhouse" but that doesn't mean the image shouldn't look really nice, which it does.

Visual Editing: 10
With the added visual look and feel this had a very Scandinavian feel somehow (Despite it being Spanish). It visually reminded me of things like 'The Killing' and 'Let The Right One In' which was nice because they are similarly unsettling pieces of work. The editing matched the rhythms of the music like a true pro.

Audio Editing: 9
I refuse to except that these visuals didn't always go with this music. They synched up perfectly with the mood and every possible moment and action. Don't bother trying to tell me different!

(FYI: I can't give a zero for "no audio editing" but I can't give a 10 either. 9 is pretty fair I feel)

Narrative: 10
It worked perfectly. I'm not what the rest of the film was about because the whole thing was here condensed into these 12 or so minutes.

Enjoyment: 10
The combination of frenetic strings and creeping visual horror was a perfect meld. It was freaky, strange and unnerving in all the right ways.

This reminds me of the time I went out for nachos and woke up naked in Uzbekistan and all I wanted to do was go home and saw something in the hotel lobby mirror and tried to put my hand through the looking glass and ended up smacking myself in the back of the head and afterwards lost my ability to do math and never made it home 'cause look i'm still there.

Pretty fantastic edit. The music was hypnotic and macabre as was the content. Its been a while since I saw the original and cant 100% remember the end as it was quite convoluted, but Neglify does a tremendous job of extracting just enough and telling the entire story without any sound or dialogue other than the music. It was overall scary, thrilling and perfect. I don't want to spoil anything. Definitely watch this edit for a macabre masterpiece.

Neglify shows how greatly he masters the art of fanediting by syncing a movie to music and telling an interesting story without any dialogue or sound effects. Everything was fitting. It was in itself complete and pretty much perfect.
I am not much a fan of artificial aging effects for film and I prefer at least a few sound effects. Still I was very well entertained by the storytelling and how in such a short while a complete plot was able to unfold. The ending was to me rather confusing (I have no idea, why he had to fight with the girl or suddenly turn into a rapist), but who knows what's going on inside a man who saw a dead girl, was stabbed, hunted by a man murderer and finally time travelled back.
I have added one point to narrative and enjoyment because of the FE.org policy of giving supernice ratings.

For this Time Travel Consecution entry, Neglify goes for a more musical, moody and artsy approach and it works wonderfully.

I saw the original, criminally unknown movie "Time Crimes" before watching this short and I knew the outcome but as I was watching it, I kept wondering how he'd pull off telling that story without dialog and especially under 15 minutes.

Negilfy made all the right choices and the short feels more like a dark poem in moving images than a traditional short film with a clear narrative. This will stand up to repeated viewings and I know I will certainly watch it many, many more times in the coming years.

As I was just getting into this, I was wondering... Man this dude is average... Man this guy is average... lol. And I really became captured as the murder unfolded before him, and I was very anxious to see what he'd do to prevent it.

I was totally expecting him to tell the girl to go the other way, or to get in so he could take her somewhere safe... I was very mistaken. No happy ending :-(

What can I say after watching this? There are so many questions! Why did the man conceal his face when he knew the girl ended up dead? Why did the man force the woman to take her clothing off? Why did the man stab himself?

I'm left more confused than anything, really.
Good edit - Recommended for a good mind-blowing experience.
The cuts were seamless. The audio precisely lined up with key action. Overall good quality.

Why, oh why did you do this to me, Neglify?
