Nothing fancy. Just used the Region 1 NTSC DVD, converted the image to black and white, adjusted the contrast, and added film aging effects. Cropped it from 1.85:1 to 16:9. Converted the 5.1 mix to stereo. A few other little tweaks to help sell the concept.

Didn't care for this a whole lot, but aspects of it kept gnawing away in my mind, so I rewatched it.
Twice.

Subversive job of turning a comic film into a cheap B-flick cop show.
Deft use of jump cuts to minimize Nielsen's humor and shift his character to Joe Friday territory.
Presley also cast as more shadowy, mysterious.
I suspect Matrixgrindhouse could have taken her farther if he wanted.

Audio and video work was ugly, jarring, often amateurish.
Again, I suspect that was the point.

If it wasn't for time restrictions, this might have worked even better as a 30" television episode. Dragnet - 77 Sunset Strip - M Squad, something similar.
A prickly weed of a short, and all the better for it.

This is a tough one. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't easy to watch. I don't really blame the editor for this. He took up a thankless task, trying to make Naked Gun unfunny. The problem of course is that so much gets cut out that there is an abundance of jarring edits. Grindhousing it kind of disguised this, but it still didn't feel right.

The edit is fun though. There are some laughs to be had from how much certain scenes need to cut down to get rid of jokes. As well I enjoyed the noir treatment. Good work on a tough job.

I loved the concept and the execution was fairly well done. I think there was far too much reliance on the grindhouse effects and the harsh audio cuts were all over the map. If this were played straight up, it would have been great.

This is a bit difficult for me to rate this fanedit because the idea behind it is realy good but the execution fell short in a lot of places.

I liked the idea of removing the jokes from this movie but I think the edit should have been about 50% shorter. Either by keeping the moments when removing the jokes makes the edit serious looking (and so make it completly serious). Or by keeping only the moments when the edit is still funny because it's obvious that the jokes were removed! (I would have kept this solution because I think it is what this edit is about anyway, and when it works, it works good). But I understand it would have been difficult to tell the whole story in about 8 minutes (but not impossible IMO).
Also the ending felt too forced for me.

With those kind of grindhouse edits you are waiting for bad video/audio cuts and stuffs. The problem is that the audio is the side of it that you should not mess too much with, and this cost this edit some enjoyment points. I know the editor can handle good audio work (I did not fully watch his full lenght Matrix fanedit yet, but it is clear that he can do wonders from what I've seen).

This short edit looks like the workprint of something that have the potential to be better.
To see what Matrixgrindhouse is really capable of, please watch his edit: Robots VS Kung Fu: The Matrix Grindhouse Edition. (fanedit of the month october 2013)

I’m sad to say it, this was the stinker for me. I was intrigued by the concept and wasn’t sure how well it would work out. So yeah… turning Naked Gun into a serious story don’t work. There’s so much that’s cut that every cut is noticeable. The editor tried to cover that up with a sort of grindhouse treatment that felt awkward. I hate slamming fan edits and I loved MGH’s first edit and think he’s brilliant. This felt like a Frankenstein. Maybe it’ll be good for you, kind of in a midnite movie way.

A nice idea that didn't quite work for me, I would have been more impressed if the editor had been able to make the cuts smooth which is a very tall order considering the source material. It would also have been good if maybe he had left a few jokes in but maybe made it seem like unintentional humour again a tall order with these films. A nice idea but to end on a pun not much cop.

matrixgrindhouse takes a comical gem and modifies it to the best of his ability to make it a pulpish noir 'tec caper. The editing may appear choppy, but given the material that had to be trimmed there is little to fault him for, and at least the grindish mixture of transistions and jumps try to excuse all the hard trims as being a part of the overall experiance. I also admire the originality of the ending and the downbeat somber tone of the final moments. Overall a nifty concept and it works better than you may think.

i found this edit rather amusing in that every time a funny line of dialogue or scene was about to happen we then have a rather sharp cut. i think it's impossible to make a serious version from the naked gun, even the best faneditors would struggle given the film knocks out a gag a minute. so for me by removing the gags it makes for another amusing police squad episode.

there are a lot of quick cuts throughout the edit and i did notice some half second clips in there that should have been removed. the black and white suits the film but i didn't feel as if i was watching an old 40's or 50's movie. the audio scratch effect i guess is needed to remove any humour i'm not sure what else could have been used in it's place.

overall as a fan of both naked gun and police squad i enjoyed this and say it's definitely worth 15mins of your time

- I could have done with out the excessive grain and lines and scratches etc., but it wasn't too distracting, just my opinion
- I realize this edit must have been tricky since the editor had to cut out the comedy and jokes but some of the dialogue felt a little abrupt – like because it had to be cut together, it didn't have natural pauses, it felt a bit too quick, if that makes any sense. The audio editing other than that was fine, nothing jarring other than what was mentioned. Also, I guess it fits the style of what matrixgrindhouse was going for but at the same time giving it the old-feel effects to the video and audio to patch over most of the cuts seemed kind of lazy for lack of a better word. No offense intended to matrixgrindhouse but I think using the grindhouse effects a bit more sparingly would have been better (“a little goes a long way” as they say)
- This was a really ambitious idea but it didn't really work for me, a non-grindhoused version with more straight forward editing might have been more appealing to me (I can't speak for anyone else).
